UNIT 3: COMMUNITY SERVICE
Lesson 1: Getting started

I/ OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, students can: talk about community service and volunteer work.
1. Knowledge:
a. Grammar : - Review: Past simple tense, present perfect
b. Lexical items : - Vocab: vocabulary related to community service
c. Pronunciation: -
2. Skills:
- Listening, Speaking, Reading,Writing and interactive skills
3. Attitude:
- Cooperation, respect, having right and friendly attitudes with friends, teachers in the new school
4. Quality and competence:
- Be confident and friendly with the new school environment
- Develope listening, speaking skills and cooperative interaction
II/ TEACHING AIDS (MATERIALS)
1.Teacher’s preparation:
- Lesson plan, Pictures, posters ,textbook,CD-MP3(Computer-Multi projector/cassette/ “sách mềm”) and other materials
2.Students’ preparation: -Textbook, notebook, school things.

I.Warm up.
Brainstorming:
- T writes the words community service on the board and divides the class into two groups. The two groups use the different chalk
-Ask students in each groups take turn to write about activities they can to help the community
- The group with more and correct words is the winner
- Introduce the new lesson
II. Activities
* Teaching Vocabulary
- Teacher elicits the words from students.
- Follow the seven steps of teaching vocab.

* Checking: Rub out and remember

III.Listen and read
1.Listen and read (P24)
- Ask Ss to open their books to the picture. - T can ask Ss prediction questions about the picture.
+ What can you see in the picture?
+ Who do you think they are?
+ What are they talking about?
-T plays the recording and has Ss follow along. After the first listening, T asks Ss to recall in formation from the listening.

Practice
1a. True or false statements (P27)
- Go through the sentences
- T asks ss to work individually to find out which sentences are true/ false
-Ask ss to share their answers
- Give feedback
b. Answer the questions (P27)
- Go through the questions
- Ask ss to work in pairs to ask and answer the questions
- Call on some pairs to practice
- Call two ss to write the answer on the boards
- Give feedback
2.Look at the words in the box. Can you put them in the right groups ? (27)
- Ss work individually to do the task then compare their answers with a partner.
- Tell Ss they can put some words in more than one column.
- T writes correct answers on the board

Look out!
Draw Ss’ attention to the box. Ask Ss to identify the words in exercise 2 which can be both nouns and verbs, or verbs and adjectives, Ask Ss if they can add more examples of the words they know
3. Fill the gaps with the words in the box.

-Ss complete the exercise individually then T checks the answers as a class.

4.Describe the pictures with the verbs in 2. (P27)
- T may tell Ss to look at the list of the verbs Ss have already got from exercise 2.
- Have Ss complete the exercise in pairs or individually.
5. Create word webs. (P27)
- T draws the word webs on the board. Have Ss work in groups to complete the word webs in 4-5 minutes on a sheetof paper at their tables.
- Encourage Ss to think of as many words as possible. When time is up, swap the sheets among groups to check each other’s answers.
- Together with the class T elicits answers to complete the word webs on the board. Then ask each group to count how many (correct) wrds their friends’ group has.
- The group who has the most correct words is the winner.
IV.Consolidation
6. Game: Vocabulary Ping Pong (p27)
Model the game with a student first, then have the class play the game as instructed

V. Home work
Do exercises in the Workbook.
