UNIT 1: MY NEW SCHOOL
Lesson 1: Getting started
I/ OBJECTIVES
- By the end of the lesson, students can:
• Listen and read for specific information about a special day
• use the lexical items related to the topic ‘My new school’
• be acquainted with the new school environment.
• Talk about school objects and school activities.
1.Knowledge:
1. Grammar: - The present simple and the present continous
2. Vocabulary: - School lexical items
3. Pronunciation: - Sounds: /əʊ/, /ʌ/
2. Skills:
- Listening, Speaking, Reading,Writing and interactive skills
3. Attitude:
- Cooperation, respect, having right and friendly attitudes with friends, teachers in the new schoo
4. Quality and competence:
- Be confident and friendly with the new school environment
- Develope listening, speaking skills and cooperative interaction
II/ TEACHING AIDS (MATERIALS)
1.Teacher’s preparation: 2.Students’ preparation:
-Lesson plan, Pictures, posters , textbook, CD-MP3(Computer-Multi projector/cassette/ “sách mềm”) and other materials
- Textbook, notebook, school things.

-Teacher do “Brainstorming game” for the students (5 minutes)

- Play the game -Teacher divides class into groups Sun and Moon.
- Each member of two groups will write one name of school object in turn
- Teacher gives them 2 minutes to write.
Who writes more words correctly and faster will be the winner
II. Getting started
Presentation (Vocabulary)
- Write the title on the board “A special day’. Explain the meaning of ‘special’
- Ask students some questions about the special day:
1. - Tell me "A special day" in Vietnamese.
2. What is your special day?
3. Why is it special for you?
3.What makes you remember the most?
-Teachers ask Students to look the picture and guess what the picture might show or what the conversation might be about:
- What is Phong doing?
- Who are Vy and Duy?
-Why is it a special day for them? (Why are they so happy?)
- Teacher plays the recording twice
- Let the students read the dialogue and find the vocabulary in this dialogue. Write and explain the meaning of the vocabulary

-Students answer the questions by raising their hands

-Students anwer the questions

-Read the dialogue and write the vocabulary in notebook

- He is having breakfast.
-They are Phong’s schoolmates.
- Because it is their fisrt day at the new school.
*Vocabulary

- ‘uniform (n): bộ đồng phục
- smart (adj): bảnh bao, nhanh trí
- ‘calculator (n): máy tính
- ‘compass (n): com pa,la bàn
- ‘rubber (n): cục tẩy
- ‘heavy (a): nặng
III.Practice
1a. True or False (P7)
- Ask students to read the dialogue again and decide they are true or false.
- Allow Ss to share answers before discussing as a class.
1b. Guess the meaning (P7)
- Tell Ss to refer back to the conversation to find the expressions
- Read in chorus
- Teacher asks the meaning
- Teacher explain the meaning of the expressions

1c. Create short role –plays (P7)
- Ask students to role-plays the short conversations in pairs before creating short role-plays.
- Ask Students to extend the conservation
2. Listen and read (P7)
- Play the recording.
- Let Students read the poem in the right intonation and rhythm and check their understanding of the poem.
- Ask Ss to write a poem about their partner, then read them poem aloud.

3.Match the words (P7)
- Ask students to match the words with the school things.
- Play the recording.
- Let students to practice saying the names of school things.
- Allow Ss to check their answer in groups.
- Explain the meaning of the words

4.Look around the class... (P7)
- Tell Ss to look around the class. Ask what they see around them/ what they have.
- Let Ss to practice the words, and make up the sentences with the words it there is time

3. Match the words with the school things. Then listen and repeat.
